Inauguration Day Prayers 2021

Sadly the reduced capacity and circumstances of the day meant we were not able to be in attendance on Capitol Hill, as we had hoped, indeed only 2000 people were able to be in attendance. We very much wanted to, especially having been there on the 6th January praying with and for our leaders, but, given the massive security presence the authorities strongly encouraged us to stay away and asked Members not to have anyone in their offices. The Congress Members had to return a form to say they would comply. I agreed with this decision and pray for all of the security forces on duty, including the thousands of National Guards who have gathered from across the country. I prayed last night for and with Members, for the transition, for the inauguration, for the nation and for the 117th Congress. We continue to pray for a hedge of protection around today and around our new President and Vice President as they are sworn in and ask God to bless President Joseph Biden Jnr. and Vice President Kamala Harris and their Administration and families. We equally pray for President Trump and Vice President Pence and their families, giving thanks for their service, and pray for protection and blessing this day and in the next season that God holds for them. We pray for wisdom, discernment and courage for them. Above individuals we pray to Almighty God for the United States of America, for a revival and a collective turning towards and surrender to Him, and for God’s anointing and healing. We pray for the Power Sharing relationship in the Senate and co-leaders Senators McConnell and Schumer. We pray for a new spirit of cooperation, of reconciliation and of healing among the 100 Senators. We pray in Jesus’ name for leaders led by God to come to the fore. We pray for Senator Tim Scott and Senator Chris Coons the CoChairs of the Senate Prayer Group. Likewise we pray for the House of Representatives and its 435 members. We pray for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and for the Majority Leader and Whip Representatives Steny Hoyer and Jim Clyburn and their Minority Leader counterparts, Representatives Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise. We pray for Congressmen John Moolenaar and Tom Souzzi the CoChairs of the House Prayer Group and for our many friends there. In that regard we keep in our pray House Chaplain Rear Admiral Margaret Kibben and Senate Chaplain Rear Admiral Barry Black, giving thanks for their leadership and faithfulness. The Lord has put the large freshman class on our hearts. We give all the glory and honor to God for how he has already begun to answer our prayers in establishing new relationships with these new men and many women leaders. Please pray with Karen and me as we forge new friendships in Jesus’ name. We follow what we call the Eisenhower Principles, of encouraging leaders to set aside their politics and their denominational experiences and to come together around the name and person of Jesus. We remind them, we remind ourselves, and we remind you, we are called to pray for all our leaders, as we follow the scripture 1 Timothy 2:1-3

“Most of all, I’m writing to encourage you to pray with gratitude to God. Pray for all men with all forms of prayers and requests as you intercede with intense passion. And pray for every political leader and representative, so that we would be able to live tranquil, undisturbed lives, as we worship the awe-inspiring God with pure hearts. It is pleasing to our Savior-God to pray for them.” 1 Timothy 2:1-3 TPT. Thank you for your prayers and your encouragements and partnership, please join with us today in agreement as we offer all these prayers in the name of Yeshua, of Jesus, who is word, who is truth, who is the bread of life, the light of the world, who told us before Abraham “I am”, who is the door, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, and is the way, the truth, and the life.

Almighty God, we recognize your design, your plans, your authority and we pledge our ultimate allegiance to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. In the name of Jesus, Grace and Peace! Mark and Karen Finlay Leaders and Followers Foundation www.leadersandfollowers.org
